The Project Justice Initiative
Anchored on the Right to Fair Trial
"50(2) Every accused person has the right to a fair trial, which includes the right— (j) to adduce and challenge evidence."The Project Justice Initiative
The Project Justice Initiative (TPJI) was started by Somo Group’s investigators and forensic experts to bridge the gap in legal defence for financially disadvantaged individuals. They observed that many defendants lacked access to effective forensic investigation, affecting their ability to have a fair trial as guaranteed by Article 50 of Kenya’s laws. Only about 20% of defendants could afford such services, meaning over 80% faced prosecution without a robust defence.
To address this critical issue, TPJI was established as a call to action. We are reaching out to investigators, medical doctors, lawyers, and scientists to volunteer their time and expertise. By joining forces, we can ensure that financially disadvantaged individuals receive the robust defence they deserve. Guided by the creed that we are our brother’s keepers, and that justice must remain our shield and defender, we are committed to transforming fair trial from mere words in the Constitution into a lived reality in legal jurisdictions.
Your participation can make a profound difference in the lives of many who are navigating the legal system without the necessary resources. Stand with us in bridging the gap and upholding the principles of justice.
We invite both expert and non-expert volunteers to join us in this vital endeavor. If you are a medical doctor, lawyer, investigator, scientist, psychologist, or a professional from any other field, your expertise can make a profound difference in the lives of those who need it most. Together, we can ensure fairness and justice prevail. Join us now and be part of the change!!!
